Cabbage Dal Kootu

Ingredients

  • Onions – 2
  • Green chillies – 3
  • Tomatoes – 2
  • Coconut (grated) – ¼ cup
  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Aniseeds – ¼ teaspoon
  • Green gram dal – ¼ cup
  • Cabbages (shredded) – ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
  • Salt – as required
  • Chilly powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Oil – 1 tablespoon

Method

  • 1. Cut onion, tomatoes and cabbage finely.
  • 2. Slit green chillies into two.
  • 3. Grind coconut, cumin and aniseeds separately.
  • 4. Cook dal with enough water and turmeric powder.
  • 5. When it is three fourth cooked, add cut cabbage and cook till it is soft and dal is mashed properly.
  • 6. Add chilly powder, fried onion, green chillies and tomatoes.
  • 7. Pour the ground mixture with enough salt.
  • 8. Mix well and Cook till desired consistency is reached.
  • 9. Serve with rice or chapati.
